2011-2012 Impact Freshmen: Myck Kabongo

The last Honorable Mention for the list is Texas bound Myck Kabongo. the Canadian legend is part of the talented Findley Prep team which is easily one of the premier high school basketball teams in the country. Rivals puts him as number 24, while ESPN ranked him as number 9 in the class. Myck is a pure point guard who excels in transition and is a great up tempo player. He is a pass first player but has no problem finishing in transition and his defense is what puts him into top player contention.

2011-2012 Impact Freshmen: Josiah Turner

Another Player on the Honorable Mention list is Arizona signee Josiah Turner. Josiah is most noted recently as the biggest snub in the McDonald's All Star game. Rivals has Josiah is the number 10 player in his class while ESPN has him as number 26. He is a quick explosive point guard that attacks the basket fiercely. He sees the court exceptionally well and has a solid mid range jumper. With big man Derek Williams departure being inevitable, Turner will look to take the reigns for Arizona next year.

2011-2012 Impact Freshmen: Deandre Daniels

The first Honorable Mention for impact freshmen next year is IMG Academy's Deandre Daniels. Rumor was Daniels had some problems with eligibility so he attended IMG. Because of this ESPN didn't give him an overall rank but gave him a 95 out of 100. Rivals ranked him ninth in this years class. Deandre is a 6'8 sharp shooter that runs the floor well and can handle the ball exceptionally for his size. He's been compared to Kyle Singler, which I agree with but I think Deandre is more versatile on offense and runs the court better. He is the highest ranked player without a commitment on Rivals, and is looked at as a slight Duke lean while still considering Kansas and Kentucky.

We're Back!

Sorry for the lack of posts in the past week, I've been in some serious negotiations with the league and higher powers. Hopefully it will all be sorted out in a week or two. If my time off can tell anything, it just proves that LED can't take the blog by the horns and post everyday. The NCAA Tourney has been crazy and I'll keep posting about it. Since college hoops is coming to an end this year, I'm going to do the top ten impact freshmen for next year. Today will be the three that just missed the cut.

P.S. There will never be another player with a flat top fresher than Brandon Jennings had in high school. Easily my favorite high school baller of all time.

College Hoops Blog Reseeds Sweet 16

The Dagger , a college hoops blog run by Yahoo Sports, has reseeded all the teams that remain in the NCAA Tourney. It's interesting at the least, but I can't believe he has my Dukies so low. I understand having Ohio State and Kansas higher than them and maybe even VCU because they've been so hott, but when North Carolina, Kentucky, and UCONN get the nod before Duke I have to dissagree. If I had to decide what team was the hottest, I'd have to say Kansas. After watching them dismantle Illinois, they look to be on a mission. The Morris Twins are animals on the court, and the have Josh Selby (Rival's number one recruit last year) and Mario Little (national JUCO player of the year in 2008) both on their bench. Nonetheless, it's just something interesting to look at.

Meet the Athletes: Malik Little

Today's athlete is from No ID No Idea, the team that missed the playoffs by only one game last season. Malik was the only player last year to receive a vote for Player of The Year for his conference and not make the All Star team. The 17 year old is a playmaker on offense and says his, "step-back is unstoppable". Malik is a force when the ball is in his hands and makes defenses worry at all times. He predicts his team to not only make the playoffs but be league champions.

Meet the Athletes: Derek Woodworth

Today's athlete is the captain of Kung Fu Panda Derek Woodworth. The 22 year old is a Bridgewater State alum and double majored in management and finance. Derek is now working as a state house clerk. He was known for his defense on the court while tearing down rebounds. Kung Fu Panda had a tough time last season through the strenuous schedule and missed out on some close games. Derek is looking forward to helping his team win a game or two and be on the other side of the close games this year.

Duke Stutters to Victory

The game was close, but the outcome was expected. Some people may think this shows that Duke isn't strong enough to make a deep run this year but that couldn't be any farther from the truth. Duke has arguably the best small men in college hoops in Smith, Irving, Curry, Dawkins, and Singler (used anywhere from a 3 to a 5). Their big men are one of the most underrated crews in the nation. Mason Plumlee is a premier player with solid contributions from Ryan Kelly and Mason's brother Miles. Kyrie Irving is still feeling his way back into the grove and will contribute immensely the rest of the way. Either way, Nolan Smith is the man that is going to orchestrate this offense and take over games.

UPDATE: Ann Arbor Hospital has confirmed that Tim Hardaway has admitted himself for a case of broken ankles.

Streak for cash

So as some of you might know ESPN.com has a game called "Streak for the Cash". I have dabbled in it but have not been very successful at all. So I decided to chronicle my streak for everyone to read and help out.

These are the rules for all of you that have never heard of this game.
STREAK FOR THE CASH

This will be the first day, I have seven games to pick from. And since no one really cares and i have no experience in NIT basketball that rules out 4 out of the seven games.

Here are the three which i am debating to pick

MLB: spring training game Red Sox Vs. Phillies
NHL: Penguins Vs. Red Wings
NBA: Celtics Vs. Knicks

Well i think the Sox game is too much of a risk because it spring training and no one cares about the final score.

This leaves me with two pretty hard games. The hockey game which is a recent rivalry game and a Stanley cup rematch from a few years ago. but the Penguins are injury ridden. But the NBA game hits a little closer to home with me being a celtics fan. I thinks the celts will win against the revamped Carmelo knicks but should I take the risk?

My Pick: Red Wings Over the Penguins 7:35pm on Versus.

Upset Alert

Wirte it down Washington is beating UNC today. I put it in my bracket and I'm sticking to it. Isiah Thomas is a silky 5'8 point guard that can't be contained. To top it off I can't stand highly talented but highly overrated Harrison Barnes. First Team All America, yeah right.

UPDATE: UNC wins by three. My bracket is dwindling by the second.

America's Boy Jimmer Just Slaying Teams

Jimmer hit seven treys yesterday as BYU beat another small school powerhouse Gonzaga. He put up 34 points and had 32 against Wofford in the first round. Everyone loves how Jimmer literally has no look that is too deep.  I lost all faith in BYU once Davies got the boot for being an American athlete, but the Mormon Monster could carry these guys to the Final Four if he keeps it up. A lot of fans would love to see the small school shoot out of Butler and BYU in the Elite Eight.

The Commish's Pick: DUKE

Truthfully I've filled out brackets since the fourth grade, and every single year I've picked Duke. That  helped me win $750 last year, and I'm just pissed that a lot more people picked Duke this year compared to last. Tonight I lost a Final Four team in K State (gutsy move), but hey guys with no balls make no babies and I take that to the grave. Kyrie Irving's hyped comeback was as good as publicized. Duke is the team to beat, Lock it up baby!

NCAA Chaos!

bWell for those who didn't watch Butler against Pitt, you missed the craziest game arguably in NCAA history. Butler scored to be up by one with under two seconds left and Shelvin Mack makes a bone head foul to bring Pitt to the line. Pitt makes the first one and misses the second. On the miss, Matt Howard rebounded the ball and with under a second left was idiotically fouled as he was turning to throw a hail mary. For the second game in a row Matt Howard scored the winning points for Butler. Howard was crucial in Butler's run last year along with lottery pick Gordan Hayward. People may think that the last foul cost Pitt the game, but if they hit the second free throw the whole scenario would have changed, and I don't think Butler would be moving on.

Guess that NSHL baller

Well although not a throw back pic, this is funny none the less. I'm not sure if this is the guy from Monsters Inc. Or what but its kind of creepy. This baller is a stand out baseball player and his older brother is part of the NSHL. Who is this blue horned monster???

The Freshmen Phenom Could Be Back for Duke

Coach K Announced Tuesday that their star freshmen, Kyrie Irving could be on the court as soon as their first game in the tournament against Hampton. Irving was spectacular before his toe injury against Butler leading the team with over 17 points a game. He was just as effective on defense shutting down  probable All American Kansas State Jacob Pullen and Michigan State's Korie Lucious (now kicked off team). Duke was a number one seed without Irving playing for over half the season, and if he's back where he left off, Duke will be repeat champs. As Dick Vitale says, "We got a Diaper Dandy baby!"

Yahoo Column

Meet the Athletes: Mike Maloney

Our next athlete is another league champion from Cougar Bait. Mike Maloney is an elite master plumber that works at Lasell College. The 24 year old plays the small forward and is contributes greatly with his team defense and long range shooting ability. Cougar Bait is a close knit group that believes they will be the first ever repeat champs in the Norton Summer Hoops League. Mike is currently looking for new hobbies due to his suspension from XBOX Live. All suggestions are welcome.

NCAA Bans Butler's Mascot

The NCAA is not allowing Blue II, Butler's Bulldog mascot for the opening game of the tournament.

NCAA spokesman David Warlock said, “We granted an exception for the Final Four last year, and suspect we would do so again in a similar situation,”.

Blue was considered instrumental in Butler's Final Four win and will be missed by die hard Bulldog fans. Many analysts are having Old Dominion as this years sleeper team, but I think Butler is gonna give them a good ole' fashioned ass whoopin'.

Blue Banned

Meet the Athletes: Keegan Schleicher

Today's athlete is Keegan Schleicher from No ID No Idea. The 18 year old is looking at URI, Umass, and Bridgewater State hoping to major in marine biology or business. Keegan is a guard and is mostly used as a role player. One of his top assets is his sideline commentating during the games. Keegan also brings in a solid three game and thinks his team can win it all if they all show up.

Doesn't Obama have bigger issues than making a Bracket?

I know the man loves basketball and this is kind of interesting but come on. I mean we have tsunamis in japan and a horrible economy and the leader of the free world is making a bracket.

His final four is OSU, Kansas, Pitt and Duke

His National Champion is Kansas.

"Kansas has more firepower," Obama said. Well that doesn't mean you win. I mean we are still in Afghanistan and Iraq right???

Guess that NSHL baller

It's that time again. Guess this NSHL Baller. This 19 year old Political Science major at UMass Amherst. We all now know him as a ginger but he plays like his hair is on fire out on the court. Who is this former NHS basketball player????

League Meeting Tomorrow

The Norton Summer Hoops League will have its second ever league meeting tomorrow night at 6pm. The meeting will be held at my house, and if you need directions just let me know. This meeting isn't mandatory, but anyone who can make it should because there will be a plethora of important topics discussed. Some things on the agenda are league expansion, uniforms, scheduling, roster transactions, and playoff structure. Everyone is welcome.

Meet the Athletes: Chris Pinheiro

Our next athlete is from Kung Fu Panda. Chris Pinheiro is a 23 year old Umass Dartmouth Grad. He majored in Mechanical engineering and is now a server, bartender, and engineer. Chris worked basically every position on the court for Kung Fu Panda depending on the line up. His ball handling and court vision helped him excel on the court. Chris may not be back this season due to work circumstances, but the league hopes it will all work out.

Monday, March 14, 2011

Meet the Athletes: Tim Laconte

Today's athlete is Captain of the formerly known Superhero Squad, Tim Laconte. The 27 year old was a Second Team All Star. Tim majored in Psychology at Bridgewater State and now works as an Adolescent Outreach Worker/ Youth Advocate for the Old Colony YMCA. Tim was part of a great run with Norton high School basketball and baseball from 1998-2001. His role on the court mostly from point guard up to small forward. The Flash was chosen as his character on the Superhero Squad due to his quickness on the court and his game play is fashioned to the NBA flash Dwayne Wade. Tim describes himself "as a pull up shooter who can take it to the rack as well as bury the 3 pointer Jimmer Fredette style". The Superhero Squad is going to have much revamped look this year. First of all their name will be changed to the Super Villain Squad in their quest for league dominance. Tim's focusing on making major acquisitions to enhance his team which won the Lancer division and lost in the championship by Dave Martin's long distance dagger. Sources have leaked only four players from this team will return and their new team is focused on going undefeated and bringing home the trophy this year.

Note to Coaches: Don't Throw Selection Party If You're a Bubble Team

See this is the problem with college athletics. Many programs receive a monstrous proportion of their funds from boosters/alums. Because of this some coaches will have selection parties to see where their team gets seeded and help show their alums and/or boosters what a great program and staff their university has. The trick here is when you have a selection party, your team should be a shoe in not a bubble team because this is not how you get the university big donors.

Fab Five Gets ILL Tomorrow Night

Tomorrow night ESPN is airing a documentary on Michigan's the Fab Five. This will probably be the best basketball documentary ever. This is the best recruit class in the history of college hoops. Last year everyone thought John Wall was the most popular college hoops player ever. In reality, the Fab Five was like five John Wall's with the flair of Magic Johnson's "Showtime".  If for some reason you're gonna be busy like me (still rockin' Myrtle Beach hard kid), then you better DVR or Tivo that bad boy because this is a film you can't miss.

P.S. Chris Webber's timeout mishap and accepting money while in college still can't affect his swag.

Meet the Athletes: Jordan Weygand

Our athlete today is Jordan Weygand. Jordan is arguably the league's top player but his season was cut short due to the fact he had to serve his tour in Afghanistan as part of the United States Army. With the respect of the league, Jordan was still voted First Team All Star in the Lancer Division. The 25 year old is hoping to be involved in law enforcement when he is back. Jordan can play virtually any position mainly the point through small forward. Jordan credits his teammates to making him successful this past year and predicts his team to win it all.

Spring Break Boi!

The Commish is going to be heading off to Myrtle Beach for a couple days but don't get too upset. I'm bringing the Mac and should be able to get a post  day in for the people. It's gonna be a super duper 15 hour car ride from about 9:30 tonight to noon tomorrow. On another note, It's quite evident that college basketball takes the back burner to college football. Baylor's star lottery pick player, Perry Jones has been declared ineligible because his mother received a $1000 loan from his high school AAU coach without him knowing. Not only that but Jones' mother paid the coach back in full. Jones is considered a top 5 pick for this year's NBA draft. The funny part is when Heisman winner Cam Newton's father was trying to sell him to schools, Newton was still eligible because he "didn't know" his father was doing this. Yahoo does a great job covering this also saying that Jones' should be allowed to play in the NIT or NCAA tournament if Baylor makes it.

Meet the Athletes: Joey Wilkes

Today's athlete was the youngest all star from this past season. 18 year old Joey Wilkes was a Second Team All Star in the Lancer Division. The No ID No Idea small forward is looking at Towson University and Westfield State College hoping to be a Sport Management major like the good ole Commish. Joey is planning on becoming a sports agent after school. What separates him from the rest of the pack on the court is his athleticism and competitiveness. Coming off a playoff run for the Norton High School basketball team, Joey expects his team to win the championship this year and looks to continue his all star caliber play.

This is Why We Don't Have Refs Part 2:

All the refs had to do was blow the whistle and give Rutgers the ball with about 1.7 seconds left. I guess the reffing strategy here was make no call then make no mistake. As Hulk would say, "Bad strategy brother!"Truthfully I'm glad St. Johns won. I like Steve Lavin, and St. Johns is bringing in the number two recruit class next year so I hope they keep it up. Anyways, this post isn't about St. Johns it's about the refs. They just let the St Johns kid just walk down the court like he owns Madison Square Garden without even taking a dribble. Reality check, the horn never went off bro. That's the problem with basketball players nowadays. Most of them have this swagger like they've been a five time NBA MVP. The refs made one smart move. Once the buzzer actually went off, they ran out of the building like the place was on fire. It's hard to get screamed at by fans when you're gone before they even realize you screwed them. In the NSHL the clock doesn't even matter, it's get to forty or die trying.

Guess that NSHL balla

This is a new addition to the NSHL blog. We will post outrageous pics of players and it will be up to u to figure it out.

The first target of guess that balla. Is what we call a townie. This kid loves the booze and the lancers (AKA a townie). He is part of the champion cougar bait. Now a days hes workin on pipes and toilets.

Guess That NSHL Balla!!!!

This is the Real Dunk Man

Everyone has been going crazy over this Division 3 slam dunk kid, who with all due respect, had some pretty filthy dunks. I hope the kid makes the NCAA dunk contest. But if you want to see what a ferocious dunk looks like, you gotta watch Air Up There AKA Mr. 720 from And 1. Guy is just purely explosive. Here's a plethora of dunks from the 6'2 phenom. Also i know in And 1 games defense is not a priority, but to have the guts to just attempt this stuff in front of a huge crowd is wild.

Air Up There Sprite Dunk Contest

Air Up There 720 Dunk

Air Up There In Game Footage

Meet the Athletes: Nick Beatrice

Our next athlete is First Team All Star in the Lancer Division Nick Beatrice. Nick AKA Beata is a 22 year old student at Bridgewater State and wants to be a pharmacist and own his own bar. He runs the point for his team Dump Em' Out which lost in the playoffs this past season. His assets on the court are his hustle, dong the little things on each side of the ball, and he getting his entire team involved. Nick emphasizes assists on offense and rebounds on defense to ensure a solid game. Dump Em' Out was one of Nick's favorite expressions and the team just went with it. He claims if his full team shows up to every game, he is guaranteeing a championship.

Norton Hoops League Bans K2

With the recent surge of K2 in athletes, the Commish will have to put a ban on K2 being used in the Norton Summer Hoops League.

Reporting by ThePostGame.com shows K2 use may be on the rise in the athlete population –- not only at various levels of amateur sport, but in professional sports as well. “I go straight weed in the off-season,” one NFL veteran told ThePostGame.com on condition of anonymity. “Then, in-season, when they test, I go to [K2].”
“It’s a danger to anybody who thinks this is a legal way to get high without being caught,” says Jay Schauben, director of the Florida Poison Control Center. “The possible side effects include significant hallucination, cardiac effects, seizures, rapid heart rate, hypertension, severe agitation, passing out, and panic attacks.”
K2 Link

Even though K2 is sold at some gas stations and is legal, we just cannot condone this. Truthfully what you do on your on time is none of the league's business but if we got kids seizuring up, seeing Jimmy Hendrix talking to them on the court, or passing out while playing, the league isn't gonna last much longer. Because of this I gotta make a rash decision. Due to the fact that our league is financially restricted, I will just have to use the honor system. If anyone says their on K2 they're banned. POW! The gavel has sounded!

Feel Good Story of the Year

Fennville High wins first game after star player's death

HOLLAND, Mich. — In a touching tribute, just four players from Fennville were announced during pregame introductions Monday night before a Class C boys district tournament basketball game against Lawrence. And just four players from Fennville walked onto the court for the opening tip in DeVos Fieldhouse at Hope College. The fifth Fennville player, Wes Leonard, was absent in body but not in spirit. Leonard, 16, died Thursday night from cardiac arrest because of dilated cardiomyopathy, or an enlarged heart. After a dramatic pause, Leonard's replacement, Xavier Grigg, was introduced. The crowd erupted in applause, many wiping away tears, as the game began. It was Fennville's first game since Leonard died.
-USA Today

This could be the feel good story of the year. I couldn't think of a better way to go, hitting a game winning shot to seal an undefeated regular season for my team. But whats amazing is the heart of the team, to go out and win the next game to keep the streak alive and to continue a run to the state championship. Just makes all the news about Charlie Sheen seem worthless.

This is Why We Don't Have Refs:

"Bob Kasmir, a part-time professor at GW, was honored at halftime for his financial contributions to the university. That didn't matter to one of the referees, who ejected Kasmir from his courtside seat with 13:45 to play."- Washington Post

You gotta give it to the guy, pure passion at its finest. If the ref sucks let him know. He even had the crowd on his side. The Hatchet, the school newspaper said"He did get a bigger ovation when he was thrown out than when he was on the court for his donation,"

Too bad the ref can't take constructive criticism

P.S. The guy says this will not affect him donating to the school in the future. Mr. rich UConn donor doesn't get his football coach and has a public temper tantrum, while Bob Kasmir throws his hands in the air like he's on a roller coaster ride as he exits the arena.

P.S.S. This ref makes$1,600 a game? We're struggling for $100 sponsors and this ref is making enough money per game to fund our whole league. Oh the irony! Give it a few years Norton Summer Hoops is going World Wide!

Meet the Athletes: Dave Martin

Dave AKA D-Mart was the only All Star selected from the champions Cougar Bait. He was a Second Team All Star in the Norton Division. The 24 Southern New Hampshire grad was a Business major and now works as a scheduler at National Grid. On the court he plays as a small forward and gets his recognition for playing with nonstop intensity and being a shut down defenseman. This all makes sense after D-Marts last blood work results came in saying he has Tiger Blood and Adonis DNA. The addition of colossal Tom Doucette has been the buzz for Cougar Bait and extremely excites Dave because now they have 3 members of the 2005 Norton High School hoops team that went an unbelievable 2-18! Consider yourself warned opponents. As the motto of D-Mart echos in the background, "Defense WINS Championships!"

Milestone Day!

The Blog has only been out to the public for six days, and we already got a 100+ view day. We found gold today!

Meet the Athletes: Chris Brooks

Monday's player for Meet the Athletes is Norton Division First Team All Star Chris Brooks AKA Brooksy. The 21 year old was the main focus on offense for the Dirty Burg last summer. The Bridgewater State University student is a business management major with a minor in accounting and finance. On the court Brooksy is a combo guard and plays some forward when needed. What makes him special on the court is his slashing ability while seeing the whole court, getting boards as a small man, and everyone knows about his three point sessions every game. His status with the Dirty Burg next year is still uncertain so for captains looking to bring their team over the top or expansion teams looking for elite talent, make yourself serviceable or this player's gonna take his talents to South Beach. Wherever Brooksy ends up he'll be making an immediate and positive impact.

LED has Entered the Building!

The Commish has added a second writer to the Blog. LED will be hitting the blog up with mostly videos about hoops to keep this stuff fresh like Charlie Sheen's Gucci coke bag. If this picture doesn't say I'm ready to blog, I really don't know what picture would. LED is a man of very few words so enjoy his videos.

P.S. still looking for some more writers. If any of you wanna get your Mark Twain on let me know.

This may have nothing to do with NSHL but it is interesting none the less.

Meet the Athletes: Pat Hannon

Today's athlete is a first team all star for the Lancer Division. First of all I'd like to say it is an honor to introduce one of my longest friends, one of my sandbox buddies, Pat Hannon. Pat Hannon aka Hannon the Mannon is a 21 year old student at Curry College. He majors in management and plans on working for the prestigious Hannon Electric Company after he graduates. Pat is the brute force playing center and power forward for No ID No Idea. His strength is just moving everyone and anyone around the blocks. The kid has the strength to outmuscle anyone for boards and has a shot as soft as a baby's bottom. He's basically Barkley with a better golf swing. He thinks if his team is committed this year, that the sky's the limit. Pat's favorite part of the league is playing alongside his brother Eddie. They've played with each other ever since they picked up basketballs and have unbelievable chemistry. When watching them play it's as if they know what each other is thinking.

Meet the Athletes: Doug Schlehuber

Our next athlete is Doug Schlehuber from the Rochester Rawdoggers. First of all I'd like to apologize for the lateness of our Meet the Athlete section. Yesterday on Day 3, we already broke our promise of having an athlete every day. This is because Doug, who is my teammate by the way, was holding out for the Meet the Athlete section for some reason. Like the kid can't cut the commissioner a break and answer a few questions for his teammate in a timely fashion. Well anyways Doug aka Dougie Fresh is a 19 year old Political Science major at UMass Amherst. He's not positive on his future plans but many assume he'll be at the right hand of Obama. Dougie runs the point and excels because of his freakish athleticism. He thinks the Rawdoggers will win the title and don't really have a chance of losing a single game this year. Dougie was extremely modest during the whole interview session saying he only thinks he'll average about 14 threes a game. Dougie once called the Irish Assassin  by numerous sources was the Norton Division Player of the Year in season one.

Sponsorship Search

This year we are getting sponsors for every team in order to afford jerseys. Anyone that has an idea of any business that would be a good sponsor let me know. The Commish will take any kind of sponsor, it doesn't matter if it's Sally's Sidewalk Lemonade Stand or Kyle's Knife Shop. We're like a fat girl in high school. Anything will do. If you have any ideas message the Commish or comment below.

In Search for Writers

Especially when the season starts, the Commish would like some more people to also post for the blog. This way they can post recaps of their games because obviously I live for this league, but I won't be attending every game. You don't need Pedro Gomez skills, but also if your greatest writing asset is getting a C minus on you junior year English mid term this job probably isn't for you. Also don't think writing for this is some overbearing burden. If you only wanna do the minimum, all you have to do is a post once a week on your game. Max 20 minutes a week. Don't go thinking you gotta show up to other games with a pen and a notebook deciphering plays or losing sleep over witty one liners. Just give us the score, who dominated the game, and what kid probably shouldn't show up next week if he knows what's best for the team. If you're interested send the Commish a message or comment on this post.

Meet the athletes: Chad Earls

Our next player on meet the athlete is Lancer Division Player of the Year Chad Earls. Chad attended the Massachusetts Corrections Academy and is now a corrections officer. The 34 year old is known as the silky smooth Power Forward for the Lancer Division Champions  the Superhero Hero. His teammates nicknamed him Thor due to the fact that his wife enjoys when he wears the helmet and nothing else. On the court Chad excels in his mid range and inside game but can pop the trey bomb like Charlie Sheen can win. His prediction on his team next year is 8-2 and the League championship which is what he thinks they should have been last year. The biggest hope is that captain Tim Laconte will finally get a haircut because anyone who has seen him recently knows how much of a jackass he looks like right now. He says Nick, Maloney, Dave, and anyone else who have seen Tim recently know exactly what he means. Chad looks to get right back on pace for Player of the Year honors for this season.

First League Meeting Announced:

The Commish has announced the first meeting of the year. It will be on March 16th at the humble abode of the Commish. Numerous important topics will be discussed including conference realignment, league expansion, game days, uniforms, team fees, and more. It is an open meeting so anyone is allowed (you do not have to be a team captain to be there).

League Expansion Update! Team Leaving Rumor!

A source who shoveled Stuart Scott's driveway has confirmed that possibly up to 3 expansion teams have confirmed to enter the Norton Summer Hoops League. On a more important note, another source has stated one of the Ancient 8 teams may be dismantling entirely and not returning this year.

Meet the athletes: Nick Schleicher

Nick Schleicher was the captain of Cougar Bait, the cinderella team that started off 0-2 and made its journey all the way to winning the championship. Nick graduated from Bridgewater State with a degree in Physical Education. He's 24 and is the Intramural Director at Bridgewater State. Nick plays Guard and makes his presence on the court known with his competitive drive and defense. Cougar Bait was decided as their team name because their players see themselves as studs and rumor is the older women love em. Their Recruiting methods for their team were wanting a balanced team who would want to win and staying within their close knit group of friends. When asked about a prediction of their record for next year, NIck's response was, "We're the defending champs- UNDEFEATED." Nick states his team's most important offseason move was the acquisition of the burley Tom Doucette. Nick was also curious if any of the other teams have the possibility of repeating as champions.

Meet the athletes:

As we anxiously wait for the league to commence, the Commish has decided to get a more media friendly atmosphere. Because of this, the blog is bringing you the fans a meet the athletes Section. Not every player in the league will be covered, but each day a different player will have some special facts, attributes, and predictions listed.

Rumor Mill:

Word from a source who sneaks Chris Berman sandwiches behind the set, is that one of the Ancient Eight original teams could be splitting up into two teams! Which team is it? Will this split bring tension between old teammates? Is there now a new league rivalry? for more information stay tuned!

We're Making a Trophy!

A league championship trophy will be created this year and presented to Cougar Bait by the "Commish" during one of their games this season. Another source that has watched Chris Broussard mow his lawn before has confirmed that Cougar Bait will not get the opportunity to play the Lakers for the Ultimate US Basketball Title. League Expansion!
