Do You Really Think Dirk is a Top 20 Player Ever

At the end of the game the announcer (pretty sure it was Mark Breen) said Dirk is a Top 20 Player Ever. Now don't get me wrong he's a surefire Hall of Famer, but no way near Top 20. I think the reason he isn't is because he's an average defender and a very very good scorer. In no way is he an elite scorer (speaking in terms of all time). Here's a list of guys better than him off the top of my head.
1. Michael Jordan
2. Bill Russell
3.Larry Bird
4. Magic Johnson
5. Kareem Abdul Jabbarr
6. Kobe Bryant
7. Jerry West
8. Wilt Chamberlain
9. Kobe Bryant
10. Shaquille O'Neal
11. Karl Malone'
12. Tim Duncan
13. Scottie Pippen
14. Isiah Thomas
15. Elgin Baylor
16. Bob Cousy
17. George Mikan
18. John Stockton
19. Julius Erving (UMASS holler at your boy)
20. Oscar Robertson
21. Hakeem Olajuwon
22. Moses Malone

Now those 22 I think without a doubt are better than Dirk. Other guys that a believe are better, but some could debate would include: Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett, Kevin Mchale, Robert Parish, Reggie Miller, David Robinson, Patrick Ewing, John Havlicek, Clyde Drexler, and George Gervin.

There's also young guys that I think will most likely become better than dirk including: Lebron, Dwayne Wade, Kevin Durant, Dwight Howard, and Derrick Rose.

  1. First, you have Kobe at 6 and then 9
Second, Big O at 20 is insane
Third Duncan is in the top 10, West isn't
Fourth, Russell was a winner, but he wasn't better than KAJ.
Fifth, Pippen doesn't belong on this list
Sixth, if you have Larry Legend ranked third than Dirk Daddy HAS TO be in your top 20.

    Here's the right list:
    1. Jordan
    2. KAJ
    3. Magic
    4. Russell
    5. Wilt
    6. Kobe
    7. Big O
    8. Bird
    9. Duncan
    10. Shaq
    11. Karl Malone
    12. Dr. J
    13. Hakeem
    14. West
    15. Moses Malone
    16. Bob Petitt
    17. Mikan
    18. Cousey
    19. Dirk
    20. Baylor

I could make cases for Stockton, Barkley, Admiral, Garnett, Gervin, Havlicek

Chances to crack top 20, LeBron, Wade.. Too early with Durant and Rose, HOWARD, no chance!!

  2. The numbers weren't rankings more of just counting guys who are better than Dirk. Either way I don't see dirk anywhere in the top 20 . At best he's around 28. There's no way you can leave the All Time Assists Leader out. Most people underrate him because he's white and boring, but him and Karl Malone are the pick and role. I would have Pippen in there too because he is the most complete team player ever. He could also literally cover any single player on the court. He's the most versatile guy arguably in NBA history. Saying Dwight Howard has no chance is just ignorant. He has the possibility of being the best defensive player since Russell, and is still greatly progressing on already great but not excellent offensive repertoire. If he gets five Defensive Player of the Years, goes to another team in Free Agency, wins a couple rings, and dominates the boards like he has been for another 8-10 years his numbers would be amazing. I think that is a strong possibility. I also forgot some important names on the original list. Elvin Hayes was a complete animal in the NBA. Offensive input wise I believe his number are very compatible to Dirk with Hayes having more boards. The reason I would put him ahead of Dirk is again defense. Hayes was a presence in the paint. Another guy I forgot is Bob Pettit. Like Mikan, Pettit is one of the original dominant centers. He averaged over 26 points and 16 boards in his career. He only played 11 season and was an All Star for all 11. He has the record by being a four time All Star Game MVP and won the award twice in the regular season. Pettit beat a Bill Russell Celtics team for the title with a 50 game 6 clincher. That was a good catch by you Nick. Lastly how can you take off Zeke. He's the either the second or third best point guard all time behind Magic and maybe Stockton. He led the Bad Boys to two championships and averaged over 19 points and 9 assists. I think if Dirk played more years in the NBA instead of the Euro League he'd be in the list, but I just can't see him cracking it.
